Animal science focuses on the health, productivity and care of managed animals (domestic livestock species, including but not limited to beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, poultry, sheep, and swine). Animal Science is also concerned with foods of animal origin: meat, dairy foods, and eggs.

The main objective of this program is to develop knowledge and skills in animal production or farming techniques, management and welfare across a range of domestic and wildlife animal species.

Additionally, students will need the tools to work in the agriculture or food production industry. Students will be trained to care for and manage animals.

Outcomes:

  • Draft regulations governing the agriculture industry, or work directly in research
  • Apply complex principles (breeding, physiology, nutrition, herd-health, economics and management) involved in animal production, care, and use.
  • Understand the role of nutrition in animal production.
  • Improve inspection standards or overall food quality
  • Conduct research on animal safety and methods of improving food production.
  • Explore animal genetics, nutrition, reproduction, diseases, growth, and development.
  • Develop efficient ways to produce and process meat, poultry, eggs, and milk
  • Crossbreed animals to get new combinations of desirable characteristics.
  •  Advise farmers on how to upgrade housing for animals, lower animal death rates, handle waste matter, and increase production.
  • Explain the mechanisms and role of reproductive physiology in livestock production.
  • Develop feeding systems for farm animal production and companion animals.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills as they apply scientific principles to a variety of animal production systems.
  • Understand how the application of modern animal production technologies and management practices impact their production facilities, their communities and the world.

An A4 envelope with postal stamp carrying the candidate’s address

A medical fee of 5000 Fcfa to be paid after admission and during registration
